Be Equipped
Need new equipment?
Whether you’re practicing at home or unable to borrow equipment due to COVID-19, you might find that you now need your own yoga equipment. I wanted to find a company that I would be happy to recommend whenever I get asked for advice. I have therefore teamed up with Ekotex Yoga, a brand who focuses on ethically and UK-made products, with organic or recycled materials. I use their equipment and find the quality being very high and long-lasting.

Vinyasa flow
During the vinyasa flow classes, we build up heat, move faster and might sweat and therefore need a mat with a good grip and is not too thick as this will make balancing difficult. Other equipment we might need is a couple of bricks and a block.
I would recommend:

Reclaimed Cork Mat
5mm thick, it has amazing grip that only gets better if wet

1-2 Cork Bricks
Good stability for helping in balancing poses

1 Foam Block
Softer support, great to sit on to ease lower backache or soften under the knees
Gentle flow
During gentle flow classes, we spend more time on the floor, so a softer mat can be nicer on our bodies. As this is a slower class we also have more time to set up the pose to really suit our bodies on any given day, two blocks and a belt can help us find another level in some poses and more ease in others.
I would recommend:

Recycled Sticky Mat
Made with soft materials that will be comfortable to be still on for quite some time.

1-2 Foam Blocks
Softer support, great to sit on or to place hands on to bring the floor a bit higher to find more movement in the spine

A Belt
This can be bought on Ekotex, but any belt or scarf will do to help us reach usually our legs or feet with more ease
Restorative Yoga
In restorative yoga, there is no end to how many props you can use, the more the better to really support the body and allow it to relax into the poses. A soft mat with plenty of support is essential, too thin will make the poses uncomfortable, too thick will feel unsupported and most likely leave the back feeling tired. A bolster or a long, thick pillow is a must, something that can support our whole upper body in some poses. A block and a brick to help prop either the bolster or the body itself up will also be very beneficial.
I would recommend:

Recycled Sticky Mat
Made with soft materials that will be comfortable to be still on for quite some time.

Round Organic Bolster
A round bolster is the most versatile and provides plenty of support for any body part.

1 Cork Brick
Good stability for supporting the bolster or massaging the head on
